Rent

So now I know. I'll be moving to Chicago sometime in mid-late July. This means I need to find a place to live. A place on the North side. A place that's safe. That preferably has wood floors. And allows pets. Because three cats will be coming with me. The wood floors thing is a want, not a need, but the rest is fairly non-negotiable.

I'll be visiting the city in June to find a living space (and maybe a job), but if anybody has any suggestions based on location, neighborhoods that are better than others, good landlords or living spaces, I'm up for pretty much anything.

I can't even begin to express how happy I am to finally know something for sure.

  1. Hello Chica! Have you checked out Evanston? It's labeled a suburb, but it's not. It's more like another neighborhood on the north side. It's on the purple El line, which connects with the red line. It's part of the Northwestern community, and there are tons of great restaurants, neighborhoods and shopping. We lived in a nice (hardwood floors, lots of windows) apartment surrounded by mansions and 3 blocks from the beach/Lake Michigan.

  2. A couple of the northernmost neighborhoods are basically in Evanston. And as for the wood floors, that shouldn't be too hard to find. All but one of my apartments at least partially had that. I think you would like Ravenswood, Lincoln Square, Andersonville, Rogers Park, Edgewater, and East Rogers park. All north, all quite safe, all full of many buildings with wooden floors. All with pretty vibrant communities with varieties of good restaurants and food of eclectic blends. Also all close enough together a short bus ride or walk will get you to the good stuff in the other and all fairly near some train line that will get you downtown.
